About This Location

[Description] Cheongnamdae, meaning "Blue House of the Warm South," is a sprawling villa complex that served as the private vacation retreat for South Korean presidents for over 20 years. Nestled along the scenic shores of Daecheong Lake, the estate was kept strictly off-limits to the public until 2003, when it was returned to the citizens. The main building, constructed with classic architectural elegance, preserves the actual bedrooms, offices, and dining halls used by former leaders, offering a rare glimpse into the private lives of the country's presidents. The estate is renowned for its magnificent natural landscape, featuring lush forests, manicured gardens, and a panoramic lakeside walking trail known as the "President’s Path." Visitors can explore various themed gardens, the Presidential Memorial Hall, and a scenic observation deck that overlooks the shimmering waters of the lake. As a premier historical and ecological landmark, Cheongnamdae provides a unique combination of political heritage and tranquil natural beauty, making it one of the most prestigious cultural destinations in the central region of Korea. [How to Get There] Cheongnamdae is best reached via a combination of intercity bus and local shuttle. From Seoul Nambu Terminal or Central City Terminal, take an intercity bus to Cheongju. From the Cheongju Intercity/Express Bus Terminal, take a city bus (such as No. 311) to Munui. From the Munui Ticket Office, you can purchase your admission and board the dedicated shuttle bus that takes you directly into the Cheongnamdae complex. Please note that while individual entry is easy, checking the shuttle bus schedule in advance is recommended for a seamless visit.
