이화동 벽화마을

About This Location

[Description] Ihwa Mural Village, nestled on the scenic slopes of Namsan Mountain near Naksan Park, is a vibrant open-air gallery that transformed a fading hillside residential area into a major cultural landmark. Created in 2006 as part of a public art project, the village features dozens of colorful murals, intricate mosaics, and creative sculptures integrated into its narrow alleys and steep staircases. The village is famous for its nostalgic, retro atmosphere and panoramic views of the Seoul city skyline. While exploring its winding paths, visitors can find charming small museums, independent cafes, and craft workshops that preserve the area's historical identity. It stands as a unique urban landmark where the daily lives of long-time residents coexist with contemporary artistic expression, offering a peaceful and photogenic retreat from the bustling city below. [How to Get There] The most common way to reach the village is from Hyehwa Station (Line 4). Take Exit 2 and walk toward Marronnier Park, then follow the signs for Naksan Park for about 10-15 minutes uphill. The ascent is somewhat steep, so wearing comfortable walking shoes is recommended. Alternatively, you can take Line 1 or 4 to Dongdaemun Station (Exit 1) and walk along the Seoul City Wall trail toward the village, which offers a beautiful historical stroll. While there are no large parking lots within the village, public transportation is highly encouraged to protect the quiet residential environment.
