About This Location

[Description] Wolhwawon is an authentic 6,000-square-meter Chinese traditional garden nestled within Hyowon Park in Suwon. Established in 2006, it was built by the Guangdong Province of China as part of a friendly cultural exchange agreement with Gyeonggi Province. The garden was constructed using traditional Guangdong architectural techniques, with authentic materials and skilled artisans brought directly from China to ensure its cultural integrity. The garden is famous for its poetic atmosphere, featuring ornate pavilions, winding corridors, and a serene artificial pond with a cascading waterfall. Its distinctive white walls, dark gray roof tiles, and "mook-chang" (patterned windows) create a stunning aesthetic that feels like a scene from a historical drama. Due to its exotic and cinematic beauty, Wolhwawon has served as a filming location for popular Korean dramas like Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo. It stands as a unique cultural landmark where visitors can experience the essence of Southern Chinese garden design amidst the urban landscape of Suwon. [How to Get There] The garden is highly accessible via the Seoul Metropolitan Subway system. Take the Suin-Bundang Line to Suwon City Hall Station and use Exit 10. From the exit, it is a pleasant 10-minute walk through the bustling business district toward Hyowon Park. Numerous city buses also stop at the "Gyeonggi Arts Center, Hyowon Park" or "Suwon City Hall Station" stations, which are located just a short distance from the garden's entrance within the park.
