[Description] The Oil Tank Culture Park, located in Mapo-gu, Seoul, is a stunning example of urban regeneration that transformed a former Mapo Oil Depot into a public cultural space. Built in 1976 following the first oil crisis, the facility was strictly restricted from public access for 41 years until its reopening in 2017. The park consists of six massive oil tanks, five of which have been creatively repurposed into performance venues, exhibition halls, and learning spaces, while the sixth was newly built using materials from the dismantled original tanks. The park is celebrated for its raw, industrial aesthetic, where rusted iron walls and cold concrete structures meet the lush greenery of the surrounding Maebongsan Mountain. It hosts a variety of eco-friendly festivals, community markets, and avant-garde art exhibitions. This site serves as a unique cultural landmark that honors Seoul’s industrial history while promoting a sustainable, creative future through the harmony of nature and architecture. [How to Get There] The park is highly accessible via the Seoul Metro. The most convenient way is to take Line 6 to World Cup Stadium Station and use Exit 2. From there, it is a pleasant 10-minute walk past the stadium and toward the Maebongsan Mountain trailhead. Alternatively, you can take several city buses, such as Blue Bus No. 571 or 710, and get off at the "World Cup Park Entrance, Culture Storage Base" station, which is located just a short walk from the main entrance. Since the park is adjacent to the vast World Cup Park complex, walking is the best way to explore the area.
